    Bands not going to SMBC

Not sure if that's the reason to step away but I must apologize for my post. I'm sorry for writing, "average program." I wasnt accounting for the entirety of their programs. Their marching programs are average programs and this statement is not a reflection of the students but a statement about the directors and their vision. I hope they find fulfillment with top 30 at BOA.

For good or bad, it seems KMEA is making some concessions in hopes of not going down in flames with a mass exodus. Too late, I think, for those bands that have already signed up for BoA. Money has already been spent to reserve those spots if I understand correctly. That would mean no Henry Clay, Central Hardin, North Hardin, Eastern (maybe others?). That's going to hurt KMEA's wallet. At least 4 of the 10 largest bands in the state taking their crowds elsewhere. And the recent vote is for next year, correct? So I suppose KMEA is hoping to woo them back?

    Bands not going to SMBC

This opinion shows that making finals at SMBC is what makes a band program great. Precisely the reason to step away from KMEA...as if BOA wouldn't provide the opportunity to achieve.

If it does go to 6 per class, I'd really hope for it to go to 4 classes again.

So now a 50/50 shot at finals, if you make semis.......hmmmmmmm

This is correct. 6 from each region. 12 Semifinalists. 6 finalists. This was the first reading of the proposal.

Now I would hate to ask questions without knowing all of the details, but do you think that David Centers leaving has something to do with KMEA? I don't see why a 15 year director would just leave for an upstart program. His program has been on the verge of greatness for years and even though they werent able to take down North Hardin in 5A West, the future surely was still bright. This one really leaves a lot of questions. Anyone know if Great Crossing will be fielding a marching band next year? I have no doubt that David will do an excellent job no matter where he goes, but I would wonder if a new high school has the financial resources for a competitive season, or enough kids to perform.

Just heard that 6 and 6 was voted on for 2020.....6 bands from each region advance to semis and then 6 to finals....

Very curious who will apply for this one. I’m sure there will be a few big names.

I can sort of understand having band and choir taught by the same person, but including multiple different jobs across different performing arts for one person seems a bit much. I know it's probably do-able, but were I in that situation, I couldn't guarantee that one or two of the programs wouldn't slightly suffer.

Central Hardin will be posted Monday. David Centers to Great Crossing HS in Scott County. Another anti KMEA hiring

Pretty sure since I know Jordan that he doesn't have any intention of leaving. That's why you shouldn't pay mind to rumors.

The classes themselves won't be completely equal, and 5A will be smaller than the other classes. But just because current 5A groups leave doesn't guarantee that class will only have 5 bands in it. Bands that would get 4 points for size/school size could move up into that top 5th and therefore receive 5 points. This is why its going to be really hard to fudge the numbers to your advantage too - there's no specific cut off. Unless you know the details with every participating school, it really doesn't work. I actually think there may be directors who cut kids to get into a certain class, who learn later they didn't have to, and then can't add them back in. #Justtakeveryonethatwantstoplay

I may just be confused by how this new system works but even if participating school size and band size are both evenly split into 5ths then wouldn't there still be about 5 or so bands in 5A? With the new point system there's only so many bands who meet that criteria and with 4 regular attendees missing next year 5A could be looking pretty small.

That TNHS job seems ridiculous. This will be like their 4th Director in 4 years. Isn’t the assistant principal a former band director? WTF?

Warren Central and Thomas Nelson are posted on the KDE site. The Thomas Nelson position is for a Performing Arts Leader - Drama/Theater/Instrumental Music/Other. Not sure exactly what that entails.

One would need to do an analysis on the current distribution in both band and a school size in the state before coming up with a system of how the classes should be done. Equal distribution may or may not jive with these distributions.

    New System

^^^^^I don’t think that’s correct, but I may be totally wrong. I’ve said all along that it needs to be equal distribution.

No it wouldn't. Organize all the bands PARTICIPATING in order by school size. Smallest 5th gets 1 point, largest 5th gets 5. Organize all the bands PARTICIPATING by band size. Smallest 5th gets 1 point, largest 5th gets 5. When bands drop out, smaller schools will move up a class. Its not based on the last 2 years anymore (your school size is the average from the last two years, but that's it.)
