    Overdue for a comeback

I think Daviess was the last of the western bands. Union Co had them back in 2009 but changed uniforms since then. Thats the only group I can think of. Calloway back in 2013 maybe? I loved seeing Hazard though.

Heard Crittenden hired, haven't heard about Henderson South from anyone I know looking. Heard Caldwell had about 200 band students between their middle and high school. Numbers like should encourage them to have two positions. However, most those neighboring counties have fewer students, maybe one director, have seen far more success in recent years. And I hate to say that because Caldwell was a strong 2A program a couple years back. But I've seen them the last two. And it just isn't the same. I just wonder why they were fired. I know they weren't tenure. Haven't heard about anyone else leaving anywhere yet.

    Mid-States Class A Championships 11/9/19

I saw most of prelims. Indian Hill was clean, Nicholas Co was a personal favorite, Campbellsville was impressive, Grove City had a great music selection, O' Cath was clear winner here. As soon as they came on the field I knew they were on a different level. Green Co, congrats on making it this year. Same with Simon Kenton! But other than that it was cold as hell

I counted 11 that I know for sure are in KY. The rest I havent heard of either because they aren't in KY or because they choose not to participate in KMEA SMBC so I havent heard much about their programs. Which brings me back to the point of my post. Just because it's the same day as State doesn't mean it cant be a decent size contest. Not every band in ky lives and dies by SMBC. When I was in high school we did KMEA and we weren't very successful. But I've found that MSBA contests overall are a much more pleasant experience with the bands I've worked with. I know that some schools dont even take their kids to watch state if they didn't qualify. So why end your season when you can give your kids another chance to perform. I think the biggest factor in this contest drawing a big crowd is maybe it's a shorter distance for these bands to go to SK than WKU. Or they actually compete in MSBA and want to get a run in on that field before Class A championships. Truthfully, idk but I do know that these bands weren't competing in SMBC anyway so it's probably just another contest for them.

Most of the bands are not from KY. However the handful of KY bands here weren't participating in KMEA to begin with. And 1A MSBA championships will be held here so I'm sure some of the programs want to compete on this field twice.

For anyone curious 1. Ryle(Open) - 81.7(Ky) 2. Tates Creek(AAAA) - 78.4(Ky) 3. Eastern(Open) - 76.3(Ky) 4. PLD(AAAA) - 74.7(Ky) 5. Muhlenberg(AAAA) - 71.5(Ky) 6. West Clermont (Open) - 67.2 7. Simon Kenton(A) - 58.7(Ky) 8. Mason Co.(A) - 56.1 9. Thomas Nelson(A) - 47.5(Ky) 10. Switzerland Co.(A) - 47.2 11. Dayton(A) - 41.9 12. Southern(A) - 39.6(Ky) I went to this contest. I didn't get to see all of the bands. But I got to see most of them. Campbell Co. as the host band was amazing. Their trombone duet was fantastic. And they played loud. My biggest complaint about the large bands were that they used the shotgun mics and pulled back their volume. CC a few times, let you have it. Ryle, stunning! Loved the show. Clearly the winner. Eastern, I loved the show. Just didn't hit me like I wanted it too. Also, I hope your member that was injured yesterday is okay. I didn't see west clermont. Tates creek. Wow. Show was effective and they played great. Huge difference in this year and last year. It is a shame they are not in KMEA because they would do well with this show. However, if you're curious their show is essentially BD 2017. But it works and they play it well so no complaints. I saw a few of the beginning bands as well. Thomas Nelson had a 11 kids on the field and placed third. They had a slight tear in their opener left to right across the field but recovered quick. Southern from louisville. I liked the show music. I felt that they moved so much though that the music never went anywhere. It never gave you time to breathe and appreciate what they were doing. Dayton was another small band that did well. They had about 15-16 on the field. I really wanted to catch Simon Kenton and their Beatles show.
