F in the chats for North Hardin. That block is STACKED. Estill got a really early draw. It'll be tough getting that class A rep but I think they'll make it into semis. Bourbon and Beechwood have decent draws and I hope the panel system doesn't screw one of them over.

Good news for Estill is I can see them winning class A in panel 1. It would be awesome to be for them to be semifinalist their first trip there!

How are the Semi-finalists picked? Is it the Top (11) from each day albeit Thursday and Friday. Then, the next (8) highest scoring bands regardless of day or class? Just curious as I am probably wrong. Also, how do they typically end up w/more than (30) Semi-finalists? If anyone really knows, then please explain it to me. It would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers,

Estill should win class A with ease in their panel. I think Monrovia and Bellbrook is their biggest competitor. I don’t know how PCEPis nowadays but I’ve heard they’ve fallen off quite a bit so we could see Estill win that first block. If I’m not mistaken John Hardin was 1A at Johnson city and seeing them in over Bellbrook and Monrovia isn’t out of the question.

From each panel they select a top 8 which sends off 16 bands to semis then the next 11 regardless of panel. Then class add ins. Add ins is top 2 from each panel.

This could be wrong but it was at least similar to this once upon a time

What you just described is sort of how super regional finalists are picked.

For grand nats it's the same concept except the top 11 from each panel (not day) are guaranteed a spot in semis, then next 8 highest scoring regardless of panel are given a spot in semis.

Then the top 2 from each class in each panel are also given a spot in semis. If they did not score within the top 30 bands then they will perform as a class representative and are given the earliest time slots in semis.

The top 22 highest scoring bands in prelims regardless of panel get the regular time slots.

Bands who scored in the "next 8" ( scored 23-30th in prelims) are split in half so that 4 bands perform before and after the top 22.

Yes. I had the top 11 and next 8 mixed up.

I predict that

Bourbon makes semis on score

Estill goes in as a class add on but finishes 28th-30th

John Hardin beats Monrovia and gets a semis spot

beechwood should be safe but there’s a small chance Lewis Cass knocks them out.

I think this year is much weaker than the last few which will go well for our Kentucky bands.

Horrible draw for NH.

Every other KY band got nice draws.

John Hardin beats Bellbrook and Monrovia.

Nice evening time for NH but Jesus Christ that block is STACKED. William Mason, Avon, Center Grove, Lawrence Township, Carmel, Park Vista, and CTJ. 💀

That's somehow even worse than the right-after-Flower Mound slot in 2017.

Yep....NH could be 7 or 8 out of that block alone.

Luckily the only other high level panel 2 bands are Marian Catholic and Round Rock. That first performance time is gonna kill them though, might be able to just sneak up in there because I know Marian isn't doing too hot this year.

Just now, nohohos said:

What does class size have to do with being beat? Bigger class =/= better band.

All I did was state a fact that bellbrook is a 2A band. I didnt say either band was better. But in discussing moving into semifinals by being a class rep then a band being 1A does make a difference from a 2A band.

I could honestly see NH winning 2A. Unless I’m missing a group, isn’t Marian Catholic really the only other group in 2A?

I saw a video of Marian and had no idea what I was watching. I have never been a fan of their ‘complex’ show designs and this year is no different.

Sssssss... Is a copy of "Medusa: A Greek Tragedy" which won MC nats in 2000 I believe. While they might not sound or look the best theres still about 3 weeks till nats which means there should be massive improvement. Also Camdenton would be a strong contender for 2A but theyre not attending nationals this year.

I saw a video of Marian Catholic that was a god awful mess but there’s a clip on BOA moments’ Instagram from more recent and I do believe that with this line up Marian Catholic will be in or closer to finals and will more than likely be your class 2A champion. They are considerably better than last season.

Hope I'm wrong though...

I have been attended BOA since back in the RCA Dome Days.  One thing I have learned during all those contests.... Don't ever count out Marian Catholic!
