Throughout the course of the season last year, a lot of competitions yielded eyebrow-raising results, and between the upsets in class AA, the five-band race for finals in class AAAA, the perennial bloodbath in AAA, and the closest finish ever in AAAAA, 2009 SMBC was one of the most action-packed finishes in recent past. I find it difficult to think that last season's climax could be topped, but with the changes that have happened in the last few years, it's definitely possible. What do you guys think?

I don't think this years results are going to be quite as suprising as last years. I don't think my nerves could handle another finish like last years anyway. lol

YOU WERENT EVEN THERE. :P

Anyways, I said just as exciting, because finals is always an exciting time of year, especially for those still in high school. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out with bands trying to break in and then bands that were so close to finals leaving (coughwestjesscough).

I think it will be just as exciting for spectators, yet more exciting for certain groups depending on situations.

Kait, let's not react to anything until we know for sure. I know you've heard from multiple sources, but until August 1st has come and the new classes are released, no one will know for sure. There's still time for people to change their minds. :)

Anyway, back on topic. I think that, if the bands in the middle of A and AA continue to improve, and if the bands in the other three classes continue to be as competitive as they have been in recent years, then there could be a lot of fireworks in the last half of October.

I don't really expect a whole lot of new faces in Finals this year, I just expect some reordering of the finalists. I would not be surprised if some new groups in Classes A and 4A broke through, but the other classes seem to look pretty mundane for me as far as new results. Things will still be fun to watch though.

I didnt say a whole lot, but I am expecting new faces in AA this year. I want to see bands that have never made it make it. I know what that feels like.

Well there are always new faces in AA. Washington Co. is the only consecutive finalist.

I honestly think that 2010 will be a very exciting year! With Madisonville-North, Grant, and Mercer County all fighting for the title in AAAA....Sounds really exciting!!!!

It's going to be a while before 2009 is topped. Adair/Bourbon is quickly reaching Lafayette/Dunbar levels. I don't know if you can call AAAAA officially "shaken up", but 1.6 points between 4th and 1st is something to notice.

It will be interesting to see if somebody can step up in AAAA and really give MNHHS a run. Can't wait to see what Mr. Gregg comes up with this year. I thought I'd seen it all and then BOOM.

Whatever happens looking forward to it.

I agree. 2009 was a pretty beast year. I hope to see Adair come back for some revenge after two years of defeat. I almost would say that they are already at that point. 1.6 points between 1-4 and less then 1 point between 5th-9th in 5A is pretty crazy. I look forward to what this year throws at us.

I think that with Calloway Co not being in the class for the second year, MNHHS will be way ahead of the competition at the start of the season, however, I believe someone will challenge them in the end.

Williamstown will be doing a show called "On The Air". Referring to the radio dial and moving up and down the dial with diff music. It looks like it will be a great show. We have Mr Tim Hart and Ben Davis working with the band. Mr Barry Milner arranging so it should be a great season for the kids! Good luck to all the band kids this year!

I disagree, if anything they will take off right as regionals and semis comes around, THEN they will be uncatchable. At least that seems to be the trend in recent years.

That is probably what will happen, but I hope for 4A's sake that someone does step it up and challenge the reigning champion. MNHHS has really taken that class over.

It's going to be close again this year, but I believe Calloway has at least a decent chance to bump back up to AAAA. So all this talk about no one to challenge Madville in the west may be moot.

However, I believe that if anyone is going to challenge Madville, it's going to be from the east. Grant County, Mercer County, or West Jessamine if Mr. White decides to keep them in KMEA competition.

Furthermore, I really hope Harrison County doesn't drop down to AAA. That would be unfortunate...
