I remember when Jeff Hood was there.. feel better? I also remember J. Steven Moore at Lafayette, Chuck Smith at Elizabethtown, Robert Elliot at Grant County...

Burris has some great bands there. Location is very remote, school is small, but not much to compete with when it comes to kids. Not a bad situation.

Where did Mr Brown go? I wonder if successful means clean nose..

We all have to do our part in staying healthy and making the right decisions. I cannot speak for the people who are throwing caution to the wind. This illness is real. I was devastated to find out today that Minor League Baseball had been cancelled for the year along with the Oktoberfest in LaCrosse, WI--where many Blue Stars alum play in an alumni corps every year.

If you announce a band has decided to not participate this year, PLEASE leave a link or screen shot to some kind of press release--even if it is a post on social media. I do not want to have a nasty rumor mill started in this thread. Also, can someone share documentation on bands that have already declaring their position for the 2020 marching season, please?

You're good! Leaving for personal reasons is one thing but Great Crossings just sounds like a trap. Just saying..

Marion County has a ms/hs job opening for integrated music. Not too clear on it being band or something else.

It's helpful. I do find job hopping despicable. I would get so infuriated when I was actively looking when I would see someone on their 2nd or 3rd job in less than 5 years. It still does. I do understand there are certain circumstances with each position but after a while, its time to look at yourself in the mirror.

Technically 3.. he was the assistant for a year and took over for two. Both him and his assistant left to go to grad school.

Lets see,... Left Apollo in 2017 to go to grad school. Went to Warren Central for a year and is now at Bullitt East. I have a couple of colleagues that have done that with a myriad of gigs. I highly doubt they'll ever get tenure. I cannot speak for their spouses and job situations because I don't know. However many have stayed within an hour of each gig. My word of advice is to really investigate the situation you are about to enter. You'll know its a good fit unless the group hiring you is corrupt (which could be the case). I work at a car dealership. We had a guy go to another dealership and came back after 3 weeks. The ones that move around never make the best living. The grass is not always greener. Your desirability goes down more and more you move around.

So.. does anyone know who has been hired at some of the postings we know of?

That is a good question. I interviewed for job 10 years ago that had a non-competitive band and was paying the stipend to do so. They stressed wanting to enter the competitive arena and never did. I have heard about some stipends that won't be paid this year. Some of the larger programs might be hurt the most due to all of the staff they hire every year. You also might see an assistant director job go away for the time being. Just a thought.. Sports have been cleared to play. If football and basketball both get cancelled, you'll see a domino effect when it comes to funding other activities.

I am surprised orange pants haven't happened yet. I would say Marshall County could pull them off..

    Overdue for a comeback

I was at Semis that year. There was a clear gap between the top 4 and the rest of the bands that day. However, MN finished 5th 4 years in a row at the end of that school's history. So basically, they finished 5th place 5 out of 6 years.

    Overdue for a comeback

I was thinking something of a philosophical change in some ways. They sound like they are bitter about anything classification and KMEA. There is a lot that would need to change to get that program back up to where they were. The concert program is still strong however the number of All-state musicians has been on a decline for the better part of a decade. I do think the bitterness toward KMEA with classification has had its part with what goes on there. They lacked something the years they were in the top 10. Sometimes it was color guard, visual effect, show design, and/or drumline. They could execute with the best of them but when everyone executes close to the same level, design gets in the way.

I would love to see Muhlenberg County rise up. It was such a fun thing to see North in the 90's and 2000's with all that talent and getting so close so many times. South made a couple of runs before the schools consolidated. What would it take for Muhlenberg to get back to prominence?

You and me both--at least have them for concert band and parades.

    Overdue for a comeback

Apollo.. What has happened there in the last several years has been unfortunate. This is one program that was so close in the 90's and in the 2000's on has been sad to see. As an alum and someone who digs deep, I cannot place blame on one person but several unfortunate and miscalculated decisions throughout the whole school system. It also baffles me to see DCHS thrive during that time with quite possibly as many different directors. I would love to see them grow into something great but a lot of things need to change.

Etown.. It was amazing to watch in the 90’s and early 2000’s. It was absolutely disappointing to see what an administration can do to such a great, avant-garde program.
